Nordic Open
The Nordic Open is a backgammon tournament in which every backgammon player dreams someday to participate. This event is held in Denmark and in charge with it is the Danish Backgammon Federation. The Nordic Open started back in the 1989. Slowly over time has evolved in one of the most important backgammon events on the planet. Each year it is organized in Helsingor, Denmark during the Easter weekend. Beside the main event there are also organized all kind of side events.

The first ever Nordic Open tournament was organized in 1989 on Easter. There were registered a total of 133 competitors. There a few players from various parts of Europe however most of them were from Denmark. A few years later, in 1993, the tournament was a real success. It managed to attract more than 270 players.

Two years ago, in 2009, the Nordic Open sponsored by an online backgammon site saw a massive field of 274 players. At the backgammon tables were present some of the best players in the world such as Karsten Bredahl, Morten Lassen, Carter Mattig, Matvey “Falafel” Natanzon, Lars Trabolt and many other top professionals.
