
The WSOB at this moment could be easily considered as one of the best backgammon tournaments in the world. This competition is a televised high stakes backgammon tour which was founded by the backgammon player Andy Bell in 2006.
The first season of the World Series of Backgammon was presented by Kara Scott and John Clark and it featured an 8 hour television series. Some of the most important events were the Nations Cup and the Riviera Cup. Both of these tournaments were held at the Palm Casino which is located in Cannes, France. The Nations Cup it was a team event and USA was the country who took the victory. They defeated Denmark in the final. In the Riviera Cup the Irish player Sean Casey finished victorious after he outlasted Nodar Gagua.
Season two of the great competition took place in 2008 and beside the traditional events there were also organized tournaments in the UK. The most important one was the UK Masters which managed to attract in the main event a total of 128 players.
In 2008 the Nordic Open joined forces with the WSOB. This had a great impact on the tournament as the championship field nearly doubled. From a initial field of 78 players it reached a total of 153 competitors. Season two of the WSOB also premiered the introduction of the final table. Basically this was a 160.000 euro championship that awarded the best players from the tour. The winner was the french backgammon expert Frederic Andrieu. He received a massive check of 100.000 euro plus the Gold Cube.
In 2010 the World Series of Backgammon extended its boundaries and lanuched the online tour.
