Acey-Deucey

This is one of the most popular backgammon variations. In this game all of your checkers start off on the board. The movement of your men around the board is basically the same like in the conventional backgammon. The checkers around the table enter and move the same way. For all of your checkers you don’t have to wait to be entered before you can start moving those already entered. For acey deucy the strategy is to make as soon as possible advance points and if you are able, as base for a prime, adjacent points. In the course of time this variation has developed into several sub-versions. The ones that are considered to be the most popular are the Greek and Mexican sub-versions.
On the web this backgammon variation is pretty popular. Although it is not as played as the regular one, there are clear signs that on the web its presence it’s increasing.

Hyper Backgammon

Just from the name you can realize that this is a very special variation of backgammon. By the fans of this board game it is extremely appreciated because compared with the regular backgammon, the Hyper version it is a lot more faster. This game begins with 3 checkers on the 22, 23 and 24 points for each side. The absence of most of the checkers definitely guarantees a very fast and also intense experience. The same as in regular backgammon you can easily double or redouble because the doubling cube is used. This goes hand in hand with the Jacoby rule. In hyper backgammon a player can either evade or attack the opponent.

Nackgammon

This game was invented by the American backgammon player Nack Ballard. It is almost the same as regular backgammon and the only differences are the starting positions. Basically instead of the usual five, you are placing four checkers on both the midpoint and 6 point. Because at the beginning of the game there are 2 extra back checkers usually this variant takes much longer compared with the regular one.

Chouette

This is a multiplayer variation of backgammon. Usually it is played competitively with an minimum of 3 players. The game starts with each player throwing one die and in case of a tie a re-roll occurs. The player that has managed to roll the highest becomes the box and he continues to play against the other team. When the box wins he collects from each player of the team. The best thing about Chouette is that at any given time a new player can join.

Tapa

This is another popular variation of backgammon. In Tapa, which means “bottle cap”, the players try as quickly as possible to block out their opponents pieces. The checkers are moved in the same direction as in typical backgammon. The objective in Tapa is also the same as in the regular version however there is one major difference. The blots can’t be eliminated when they are hit by an opponent.
